When:

Once again, we’re heading to sunny Las Vegas. The fun starts on Friday, April 16th and comes to an end on Sunday (April 18th).

Hotel:

The chapter got quite a deal and has blocked thirty rooms at the Flamingo Hotel. The total cost, per room, for two nights, is $220 for up-to two people and $240 for up-to four people. That even includes tax. If you opt to share with someone, well then, do the math and divide $220/240 between the total number of occupants (I’ll spare the example math). As far as dollar-for-value, we really can’t beat this deal!

To reserve a room, contact Tristan Schmitt at (281) 744-6965. If you’re planning to share a room, please coordinate with that person first, then contact Tristan. Alternately, he may be able to pair you with someone else, if needed.

You will need to coordinate payment for your room in-advance. Due to restrictions set by the hotel, the chapter is responsible for a minimum of twenty rooms. As such, if you make a reservation, you’re required to pay Tristan, in full, BEFORE the actual event. Also, because of these restrictions, payments are non-refundable. The chapter isn’t looking to make money from this event, but it’s important that they don’t *lose* money either. Our collective history has shown that, inevitably, there are one or two last minute drop-outs and the chapter is left holding the bill. Let’s help our fellow brothers by being responsible and living the values of Theta Xi.

Dinner:

Plans for dinner have changed from years-past to help simplify everything and provide a better overall experience. Dinner will begin around 5:30pm on Saturday evening. A steakhouse has been chosen and a banquet has been setup. Each person is responsible for spending at least $50.00 on food and beverages. This shouldn’t be a problem for us… If you remember last year’s event, there was a cash bar on top of the cost of dinner. So, overall, this is a much better value. We’ve been assured that things will run smoothly. More details as to how this works will be provided later.

Events:

** Update **:

Friday Night:

  • Arrive and Check-In
  • 8pm, dinner at The Flamingo (Restaurant TBD)
  • After dinner it’s on to your standard Vegas stuff (bars, clubs, casinos, and what-have-you)

Saturday:

——-

All other events are in the final stages of planning. The intent is to have everyone together for most of the weekend but to give everyone ample time to do other things on their own as well. We’re looking into what shows are playing and what other events are going on that weekend so we can fill the schedule.

The idea of a golf outing was investigated but the logistics and cost quickly became an issue. As any golfer knows, Saturday morning is prime golfing time. As such, one pays a premium for that time slot. Add in the hassle of traveling with golf clubs (or the added expense of renting) and things started looking bleak. Most of the places we contacted won’t do a traditional “tournament” for anything less than nine foursomes. A lot of places cater to smaller “theme outings” but, in the end, I don’t think most people are up for $1000/person golf outing.

Now, that said, there’s nothing stopping those who want to play to do so. There will plenty of time on Saturday morning if individuals want to coordinate their own event. But, the chapter won’t be planning anything formal. If you’re interested, you can contact the Flamingo’s Concierge for more information.

The Final Word:

So, what it all boils down to is for about $250.00 you get a hotel room, dinner, and a weekend filled with events celebrating Theta Xi’s 146 years of tradition and brotherhood. Come support Gamma Iota and celebrate all things Theta Xi!

Alumni Association Comments :

The chapter has put a lot of work into setting up this year’s event. Each year is a learning experience and, going forward, we plan for continued success. By having regular, predictable events, more people will start to re-connect with the chapter and we can start to grow the Association in to more than a loose amalgamation of people. Just like in “What About Bob”, it’s all about baby-steps.
